THE RED–GREEN ALLIANCE IS EMERGING IN AMERICA—AND THE WARNING SIGNS ARE BECOMING VIOLENT

PowerMentor Special Report

America must confront an uncomfortable and increasingly dangerous reality: radical left-wing extremism and Islamist extremism can operate within the same political ecosystem, amplify the same grievances and direct their anger toward many of the same targets.

This tactical convergence is commonly described as the Red–Green Alliance.

Red represents revolutionary Marxist, anarchist, anti-capitalist and violent anti-fascist movements.

Green represents Islamist extremist movements and the ideological networks that support or excuse them.

These movements do not share the same ultimate vision for society. In fact, many of their beliefs fundamentally contradict one another. But alliances are not always built upon shared values. Sometimes they are built upon shared enemies.

Among the targets frequently condemned by both movements are:

The United States government.
Western democratic institutions.
Federal law enforcement.
Capitalism.
Traditional American values.
Israel and those who support it.

That common opposition creates opportunities for shared messaging, coordinated demonstrations, propaganda, intimidation and the normalization of political violence.

THE NEW YORK FEDERAL BUILDING ATTACK

On July 20, 2026, authorities say a former United States Army soldier carried out a violent attack outside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan, a building housing the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an immigration court and other federal agencies.

According to officials, the suspect poured gasoline near an employee entrance and ignited it using a lighter and a large firework. He then allegedly fired several pellets from an airsoft weapon toward the building. Authorities recovered additional weapons, including axes, knives, a hammer and a machete. Three people reportedly suffered minor injuries.

The FBI said the suspect made anti-government, anti-American and anti-ICE statements and appeared indifferent to whether anyone was killed. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the attack.

This was not peaceful protest.

It was not protected political expression.

It was an alleged, premeditated act of violence against a federal facility, the public servants working inside it and innocent civilians conducting government business.

A RESULT OF A DANGEROUS EXTREMIST ENVIRONMENT

No publicly released evidence currently establishes that the New York suspect was working with an Islamist organization. That distinction must remain clear.

However, the attack can reasonably be understood as a warning sign of the radicalized anti-government environment in which a Red–Green convergence can grow.

The danger is not limited to formal membership cards, centralized leadership or signed agreements between organizations. Modern extremist alliances often operate through decentralized networks, overlapping demonstrations, social-media messaging, shared slogans, mutual amplification and common political targets.

An individual may become radicalized within that larger environment without receiving direct instructions from a recognized organization.

The gasoline, weapons and anti-government rhetoric seen in New York demonstrate what can happen when political hatred moves beyond protest and becomes an excuse for violence.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS NOW IDENTIFYING THE THREAT

The 2026 United States Counterterrorism Strategy identifies three major categories of concern:

Narcoterrorists and transnational gangs.
Legacy Islamist terrorists.
Violent left-wing extremists, including anarchists and anti-fascists.

The strategy states that America faces changing combinations of violent actors and recognizes violent left-wing extremism as a serious national-security concern alongside longstanding Islamist terrorist threats.

In July 2026, Secretary of State Marco Rubio also called for greater international cooperation against far-left political terrorism, arguing that the threat had been insufficiently addressed by governments and counterterrorism institutions.

This represents a significant change.

For years, many political and media institutions appeared reluctant to acknowledge organized or ideologically motivated violence emerging from the radical left. Rioting, arson, assaults and attacks on government property were often minimized as spontaneous unrest or isolated criminal behavior.

That reluctance has created space for escalation.

HOW THE RED–GREEN ALLIANCE FUNCTIONS

The Red–Green Alliance does not require communists and Islamists to agree on every issue. It requires only enough tactical agreement to oppose a common enemy.

The alliance may appear through:

Shared anti-American and anti-Western messaging.

Joint participation in anti-Israel demonstrations.

Efforts to delegitimize police, immigration enforcement and federal institutions.

Mutual amplification of inflammatory propaganda.

The defense or romanticization of political violence.

Pressure campaigns intended to silence ideological opponents.

Foreign ideological influence entering domestic activist movements.

The greatest danger is the creation of a culture in which violence becomes morally justified because the target has first been described as evil, fascist, colonialist, illegitimate or deserving of destruction.

Once that moral barrier is removed, arson and physical attacks can be presented as resistance rather than criminal violence.

THE RADICALIZATION PROCESS

Political terrorism rarely begins with gasoline and weapons.

It begins with words.

It begins when people are taught that their neighbors are enemies.

It grows when government employees, police officers, Jewish citizens, Christians, conservatives or political opponents are portrayed as less than human.

It accelerates when destruction is celebrated.

It becomes deadly when extremists convince themselves that violence is not merely permitted but morally necessary.

The attack at 26 Federal Plaza should therefore be viewed as more than an isolated disturbance. It is a warning of what may follow when extremist rhetoric, anti-government hatred and revolutionary ideology are allowed to intensify without moral or legal accountability.

AMERICA MUST NOT LOOK AWAY

Acknowledging the Red–Green Alliance does not mean condemning every Muslim, immigrant, left-wing voter or peaceful protester.

Most Americans—including Muslims and people across the political spectrum—reject terrorism and political violence.

The focus must remain on violent extremists, revolutionary networks, material supporters, foreign influence operations and organizations that encourage, finance, excuse or facilitate violence.

But refusing to identify the ideology behind an emerging threat is not tolerance.

It is negligence.

Authorities must follow the evidence wherever it leads. They must investigate funding, organizational relationships, online radicalization, foreign connections and any coordinated effort to attack federal institutions or intimidate the American people.

Lawful protest must remain protected.

Political violence must be prosecuted.

Foreign-backed extremist activity must be exposed.

And every organization—left, right, religious or secular—must be held to the same legal standard.

POWERMENTOR WARNING

The Red–Green Alliance represents a dangerous convergence between movements that may disagree about the future but increasingly cooperate against the present constitutional order.

The July 20 attack in New York demonstrates how quickly extremist hatred can move from slogans to gasoline, from protest to weapons and from political anger to a willingness to endanger human life.

America must recognize the warning signs before isolated attacks become an expanding pattern.

Freedom cannot survive when intimidation replaces debate.

Justice cannot survive when violence is excused because of political ideology.

The Constitution cannot defend itself unless courageous citizens are willing to defend truth, public order and the rule of law.

POWERMENTOR

The Red–Green Alliance is no longer merely a foreign political theory. Its warning signs are appearing inside America—and ignoring them will only make the danger grow.
