Nearly 10,000 Voices. One Future: Independence.
Based on nearly 10,000 responses, the results are statistically reliable, with a margin of error of approximately ±1 percentage point.
What these results show is clear: the Karen majority desire Independence.
Even more powerful is how these responses were given. In the midst of a sham “election” orchestrated by Burmese generals—where intimidation, surveillance, and punishment are used to silence voices for freedom—those who participated in this poll deserve to be commended for their courage. Speaking up for independence in Burma (Myanmar) is not a casual opinion; for many, it can carry real risk. Yet thousands still chose to speak.
That courage produced a remarkably unified outcome:
Political Direction
Independence: 98.3%
Federalism: 1.7%
Preferred President
Nerdah Bo Mya: 99.1%
Kwe Htoo Win: 0.9%
Top Priorities
Security & Protection for Civilians: 94.6%
Schools & Education: 92.1%
Healthcare/Humanitarian Support: 91.3%
Anti-Corruption & Accountability: 90.0%
International Recognition/Diplomacy: 89.8%
Economic Development: 89.5%
Taken together, this is more than a poll—it’s a mandate. It shows a people who are not only demanding self-determination, but who are also clear-eyed about what nation-building requires: protect civilians, educate the next generation, deliver healthcare, defeat corruption, win recognition, and build a functioning economy.
To every Karen respondent: your voice matters—and your willingness to speak in a hostile environment is a statement the world should not ignore.
